Public Boat schedules and prices
General notes for public boats
- The boats are the best way to travel between towns around the lake: cheaper, faster, amazing view, and more pleasant.
- The local people living at the lake get a discount, so don't be surprised if you see them paying less. You're not getting ripped off, that's how things are.
- You can buy pre-paid tickets at San Pedro's dock to make your experience seamless. If you don't have tickets, try to have exact change when you're paying because the driver may not have extra change and you may end up paying more if you don't. Maybe they'll accept US dollars or other currencies but at a poor rate so try to have Quetzales which is the Guatemalan currency.
- The driver may not speak English, so it's helpful to know some basic Spanish phrases or have a translation app handy.
There are 3 main lines of public boats around the lake
01
From Panajachel to San Pedro - From San Pedro to Panajachel
Commute route
From Panajachel, passing by Santa Cruz La Laguna, Jailbalito, Tzununa, San Marcos La Laguna, San Juan La Laguna finishing in San Pedro La Laguna and the other way around for the boats leaving from San Pedro. The boat can stop to the San pablo dock if you ask but he won't stop by default. The public boats can stop to pretty much any private dock on the way, so if you're going to a house or an hostel that has private dock, just ask the driver and he'll drop where you need, sometimes it can be an extra Q5
